Indian team selectors announced the squads for the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa and the 7-match ODI series in England. Mahendra Singh Dhoni (MSD not MSG) has been named as the skipper for the Twenty20 World Cup. Sehwag, Harbhajan and Pathan are back in the Indian team as well. The selectors’ reasoning was that they needed some experience in the squad alongwith the youth to guide the team. And with the Big Three (Sachin, Rahul and Saurav) ruling themselves out, the team selectors had no choice but to go back to Sehwag and Bhajji.

For the ODI series in England, there are not a lot of changes here. Piyush Chawla and Rohit Sharma are the newcomers. Piyush would surely be a handful for the English players, quite like Warnie used to be. I am not sure if Rohit Sharma would even get a look in. Maybe if India win the first four matches (wishful thinking I know) they might give more chances to the squad’s youngsters. But on first look, I think that the selectors have done a fairly decent job.

England One Day Series:

Rahul Dravid (Capt), Mahendra Singh Dhoni (VC), Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Yuvraj Singh, Ramesh Powar, Dinesh Karthik, Zaheer Khan, Rudra Pratap Singh, Munaf Patel, Robin Uthappa, Rohit Sharma, Piyush Chawla, Gautam Gambhir, Ajit Agarkar.
