New Indian Captain(s) to be named today

The BCCI is going to announce the successor to Rahul Dravid today. It is still unclear if the board is going to name two captains - each for one day and test matches. There is a lot of speculation that Dhoni will be named the ODI captain as he is already leading the team in the Twenty20 World Cup. This may very well be true as Dhoni does have the right attitude to lead the team. His work ethic and brain are second to none in the Indian team.

As for the test captain, there seem to be three candidates - Tendulkar, Ganguly and Laxman. This is where the board needs to be careful in their decision. Ganguly seems to be the right candidate at the moment. Sachin can barely last 5 days of intense cricket and to pur extra pressure of leading the team may further shorten his cricket career. Ganguly has already proven himself as the most successful Indian captain. Although his attitude came into questioning just before his sacking, I think he has learned more and is now even better.

As for Laxman, he can barely find a place in the playing XI so his being a captain is not going to be an decision. Although he is the best middle-order player for India, he doesn’t come across as a wily customer who can make the tough decisions.

    Hi suman,

I understand your emotions and your logic, however I believe that this is the perfect time for the Indian board to choose a new/younger captain so that we can groom him for the next world cup.

We need to look towards the future and cannot be consumed by our sentiments. I admire ganguly for the way he led india, but to bring him back is not going to send the correct message to the rest of the team members.

An opportunity has arisen for Dhoni or Yuvraj to step forward and realise their potential.

Lets hope that whoever becomes the captain, gets the full support of the board and the country.

    Regards
    Nanda

Sourav ganguly should be the next Indian captain with no hasitation and controvercy. The Bad Politics of BCCI after taking charge from Jagmohon dalmia and Company is Responsible For the destraction of Indian Cricket. The Golden age of Indian cricket led by Mr. Jagmohan Dalmia is now Past and I have a doubt that that golden age will Properbly not come again if this Worst Management and their bad Politics and Community game Still Exist. BCCI led by Sarad(Marathi), a Calpit and Wolf has Occupaied two different post of Higest Calber. He do not know anything about Cricket but know the bad politics very well. There is a continuous effort to promot and get benifited to all the player and official who belongs to either western or northern part of India. BCCI from the starting continuously promoting maharastian player to the Indian team but remember Jagmohan Dalmia never do this thing. Sourav ganguly has all the ability and experience but he is a victim of bad politics. Those people in BCCI is resposible for trying to end the carrear of India\’s most Successful captain and one of the great Cricketer must get the Punishment By God and the Public of India. Sourav Ganguly must come again and become Indian Captain. No body will stop him.

agreed, i think dhoni fits the profile perfectly at the moment. yuvraj has discipline problems so that works against him. sehwag is out, and this would have really gone to him had he been in the team.
