After the win in the Twenty20 World Cup, a lot of credit and accolades have gone to the players and the support staff. Fair enough. But shouldn’t the real credit go to the BCCI and it’s selectors for actually choosing this bunch of youngsters and making a brave decision of sending Dhoni as the captain in a major tournament.

The decision would have been made even more difficult after Sachin, Saurav and Dravid refused to be considered for this edition of the World Cup. Not only did the selectors have to find out replacements, but to also ensure that the youngsters would be committed to one goal only – to perform way above expectations.

The very fact that nobody had any expectations is what stunned me in the first place. Here is Team India, looking to play in a major world tournament, and nobody was giving them a chance. Thank god almighty, that the team proved everyone wrong, even a red-faced Ravi Shastri at the semi-final presentation ceremony.

So where do we go from here? That’s what the selectors would be thinking. For years the critics and fans alike have been wanting better performance from the team. I mean look at the way these guys have fielded. My message to Rahul Dravid -THE INDIAN TEAM DOES NOT HAVE A FIELDING PROBLEM. Sachin, Saurav, Kumble, Laxman and Dravid are the fielding problem for the team. Let’s face it, barring Tendulkar, the remaining four are elephants in the field. Slow to get up, slow to move, and pathetic runners between the wickets.

The good thing is that all the fifteen members of the winning squad have individually proven their callibre on the big stage and if these are signs of things to come, I am already booking my ticket for India for the 2011 World Cup. Let’s hope that the BCCI and it’s selectors don’t get too carried away and make an exit strategy for the the five lumbering giants of Indian cricket – Sachin, Saurav, Dravid, Laxman and Kumble. Oh, and please keep Ajit Agarkar out of the squad, pretty please.
