Windfall for Team India
Just winning the Twenty20 World Cup was more than enough for each member of the Indian squad to be awarded tons of hard cash. On top of the $490,000 prize money from the Twenty20 World cup here is what I have found so far:
- $3,000,000 awarded to the team by the BCCI
- The Pathan brothers were awarded Rs 500,000 each by the Gujrat government.
- Sahara awards each member of the Indian squad (15 in total) a free house at any of the 217 Sahara India Parivar owned properties. Each house would be worth Rs 2,500,000 approximately.
- Free world tour for players and their families on Air India
- Dhoni, Yuvraj, Uthappa, Irfan Pathan, RP Singh and Harbhajan Singh – all Air India employees – will also get out of turn promotions (whatever that means).
- Robin Uthappa to receive Rs 300,000 from the Kerala government.
- Robin Uthappa and Venkatesh Prasad, the current bowling coach, will get Rs 500,000 each from the Karnataka government.
- RP Singh to receive Rs 200,000 from the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA). RP may also get the coveted Manyavar Kanshiramji International Sports award which carries a prize of Rs 1,000,00.
- The Pathan brothers will also get an additional Rs 1,100,000 each from the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA).
- Joginder Sharma, the last over hero of the semi-final and final, has been awarded Rs 2,100,000 by the Haryana government.
- Sehwag and Gambhir to get Rs 500,000 each by the Delhi government.
- Rohit Sharma and Ajit Agarkar (bloody hell, even he got awarded) to receive Rs 1,000,000 each from the Maharashtra government.
- Dhoni to be conferred the first ever Jharkhand Ratna, which incidentally carries a Rs 500,000 reward, and will also receive a “surprise” gift from the Jharkhand chief minister Mr Madhu Koda. Update: Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda, on Thursday 25th October, handed over the keys of a luxury car: a cream-coloured Toyota Corolla. The Jharkhand government also gave him a cheque of Rs 5 lakh, which Dhoni promptly donated to the CM’s relief fund.
- Yuvraj Singh awarded Rs 10,000,000 by the BCCI after his semi-final performance. He will also be given a brand new Porsche car.
- The Himachal Pradesh government has awarded a free 1 week stay for each member of the team in any of the HP Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) hotels in the state.
- Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh will each receive a pure 24 carat gold medal by Baba Lodhiana Youth Sports Club, Jalandhar.
- RP Singh will be given a Mercedes by Neosport.
- The BCCI has awarded Rs 1,500,000 to each of member of the sport staff.
- Sreesanth to receive a 5-sovereign gold coin by KPCC.
- Sreesanth would also get Rs 500,000 by the Kerala government.
- Yousuf Pathan was gifted Rs 200,100 by Reliance Industries.
Phew, that was all I could find at the moment. Of course, there will tons more to be awards to the squad members in the coming days, so I will try my best to keep up with the news. If any of you guys find something that I have not yet added to the list, just reply to this post and I will update the post.

The State of Jharkhand came into existence on 15th November 2000 as the 28th
