IPL vs ICL, Take 2

Now this comes as a major surprise to me. Mohammad Yousuf, already involved in plenty of drama over whether he is going to play in the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL), has now joined up with the BCCI’s official Indian Premier League (IPL).

This is what Cricinfo reported - “Yousuf has signed a contract with the IPL,” Nasim Ashraf, chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, told the News, a Pakistani daily. Eight Sri Lankan cricketers, including Muttiah Muralitharan and Mahela Jayawardene, have already signed on with the IPL.

It will be interesting to see which organization will come out on top as both are claiming to have attracted a lot of big name international players. Both are offering relatively similar amounts of money. If the ICL can be officially accredited by the ICC, then we can see some healthy competition among the two leagues. Which in turn is only going to benefit the sport and the sportsmen in India.

    Thanks Kunal.

ICL has challenged BCCI’s monopoly in representing Cricket at all levels in the High Court.

It would be interesting to note the Court’s take on this issue.
Anything against ICL would prove to be a huge lose for the owner and the investors.

Roxi, you could not have put it any better. ICL will need to do something really different if they are planning on competing with the BCCI’s league.

ICL can get ICC accreditation only after BCCI do so.
That will never happen that’s for sure.
Also, BCCI offering more money than ICL. Other countries’ Cricket boards have also warned their players for joining the rebel league.

In short, I don’t see any future for ICL. It would have survived with extreme success, if IPL was not formed.

I think now ICL’s future is all in the hands of the High Court where recently they filed their case against BCCI.
