England in India, 2008 – 2nd Test – Day 5 Highlights
The match ended in a tame draw as Gambhir and Yuvraj Singh missed out on their centuries. It would have been Gambhir’s 2nd ton in as many innings but he couldn’t get to that landmark, falling just 3 runs short. Yuvraj Singh played like only he can, and it was his innings alone that helped India get to a position from where they could not lose.
England did lose an early wicket, but Strauss and Bell ensured that no more fell. Both captains then agreed that it was pointless playing any more. Gautam Gambhir was awarded man of the match, and surprise, surprise, Zaheer Khan got the man of the series award for his aggressive bowling.
India won the test series 1-0. This follows a 2-0 win over Australia and then a 5-0 whitewash in the ODI series against England. They don’t have anything until March 2009, as the Pakistan series has been called off, so the players can go and rest a bit as next year is going to get extremely hectic.
