Well, here we are again. Shane Warne embroiled in another controversy. This time with the Rajasthan Cricket Association who are alleging that Warne abused Sanjay Dixit (chief of RCA).
According to Times of India,
Dixit had told TOI on Saturday that the RCA might not take any action against Warne after the former had received a letter of apology from Rajasthan Royals CEO Sean Morris. The decision to go ahead with a criminal complaint was taken after the Royals management refused to reveal the ‘punishment’ it would hand out to Warne. “I had written to Morris, asking him about the action they intend to take against Warne,” Dixit said. “Morris replied today that he is not in a position to reveal that. So, we couldn’t take cognizance of the letter.”
The contents of the e-mail apology includes,
An internal disciplinary panel was convened at earliest opportunity and met with Shane Warne to review his comments made to yourself post the prize giving. Following submissions from the player and other management staff who were present at the incident we have decided to take disciplinary action against the player.
Even the BCCI is now getting impatient to get this issue resolved. A meeting between Rajasthan Royals and Rajasthan Cricket Association has been called for to get this matter off the table as soon as possible.
The war of words on Twitter, though, continue:
In his latest salvo on the micro-blogging site, Warne posted on Sunday to ask his fans to “wait till the end of IPL and I will say everything he promised and went back on his word about to the Royals. Unfortunately it is all about Dixit ego! RR has been fantastic for RCA – it’s about RR not Dixit.” To which Dixit replied: “I want to hear them too. Be sure to back it up with evidence, though.”
Methinks, this is more about ego clashes. Shane Warne believes he has done a lot for Rajasthan Royals (which he has) and so he has a right to speak his mind. What he doesn’t realise is that RR is not RCA. The cricket associations in India are completely politicized and therefore have men/women who have more egos than himself. This is going to get messy, no doubt. I do have the feeling that Shane Warne’s personal goodwill amongst Indian people may actually go up. He will be seen as taking on the faceless men behind State associations.
