In their first match, Pakistan completed a comfortable 51 run win. Scotland won the toss and decided to field first, which seems to be the trend so far in this World Cup. Just about all the Pakistani batsmen got starts and only Younis Khan managed to get a decent total as he smashed 41 from only 29 balls. Pakistan ended their innings at 171/9 from their 20 overs. For Scotland, opening bowler Blain caused all the early damage as he picked up the first couple of wickets and Pakistan were staring down the barrel at 24/2 from 5 overs. Shahid Afridi provided some much needed momentum with his short but entertaining innings of 22 from only 7 balls.
Wright picked up 3 important middle order wickets alongwith Haq who snagged a couple himself. Overall, I think the Scots bowled very well. With the bat, however, they still need some more improvement. Despite Watts getting 46 from only 35 balls, the rest of the batsmen completely flopped miserably. Umar Gul and man-of-the-match Afridi caused all the damage with the ball as they picked up 4 wickets each.

India vs Scotland was never going to be a major draw for me to watch the match. So I am just going to report on what I have read so far. For India there were a lot of changes to the playing XI with Tendulkar, Ganguly, Laxman, Zaheer, Kumble, Sreesanth and Jaffer out. Of these seven, Laxman, Kumble, Sreesanth and Jaffer were only for the test series. The replacements were Gambhir, Uthappa, Yuvraj, Munaf Patel, Piyush Chawla, Ajit Agarkar and Romesh Powar.
Rahul Dravid’s luck with the toss continued as he won yet again and chose to put his former teammates in to bat first. India struck early as they had the Scots in deep trouble at 49/4. All three seamers, RP Singh, Ajit Agarkar and Munaf Patel, made hay while the sun was not shining. They ended with two wickets each at the end of the day. Piyush Chawla grabbed another two wickets to make it another overall team effort by the Indians. I think we all need to start getting used to this team effort by India.
