Ponting claims, “almost ended up behind bars”

In a recent interview, Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting claimed that his poor remarks after the World Cup win almost landed him and his team behind bars. After the Aussies defeated Sri Lanka in the World Cup final, the players were rejoicing on the ground. After some time one of the police men asked Ponting to get his players to vacate the ground.

Ponting’s response - “Hang on. We’ve just won the World Cup. Can’t you give us one minute?” - after adding “a swear word into that request, which the police officer did not appreciate at all.” Any person would be offended, and definitely saying things like this to a cop is not the best of things to be doing in a foreign country. In Ponting’s own words, “He stepped towards me, and my teammates moved in behind me, as if a real stink was about to take place. I think they threatened to lock us up for the night, and we soon realised that we weren’t going to be permitted to finish our ceremony.”
