Day 2 Review

Sree SanthHahahaha. What a bloody match? I was planning on sleeping early yesterday, but the weather gods and the Lords ground/crew was on a completely different wavelength. Ian Botham probaby said it right when he mentioned that the ground was perfect for water-skiing. That was just 2 hours prior to the fireworks, and believe me the English batting team literally imploded. 6 wickets were lost for less than 40 runs. From a comfortable position they slid to a rather uncomfortable position.

India did learn from their mistakes on the first day. The spring in the steps was clearly evident. The line and length were there. There was no unnecessary celebration at the fall of wickets, besides for the usual antics that one now expects to see from Sree Santh (yeah he changed his name from Sreesanth to Sree Santh). Even Zaheer was a transformed bowler from yesterday. Read the rest of this entry »

Murali is king of spin

Muttiah MuralitharanMuralitharan took his 700th wicket against Bangladesh as his team won a comprehensive victory by an innings and 193 runs. The 700th scalp was Syed Rasel. He now joins Shane Warne as only the second bowler in cricket history to cross the 700 wicket barrier in test matches. With only 8 more wickets required to become the leading wicket taker in tests, Muralitharan’s carrier could very well have been over even before it started. The bent elbow has been his Achilles’ Heel. It has provided him with the turn that he can generate off any surface and has landed him into a lot trouble as well.

Update on Sehwag and Harbhajan

Posted July 6th, 2007 by Nanda 1 Comment »

Virender SehwagWith the Indian tour to England underway and the first ball going to be bowled in less than 24 hours, I wanted to check out on what Sehwag and Harbhajan were upto. The last I heard was that Sehwag was destroying the opposition in the domestic circuit and Harbhajan had been called to join county team Surrey. Both players had been dropped from the Indian squad for both ODIs and Tests due to a string of poor to average performances. They were also dealt a double blow when the BCCI demotedHarbhajan Singh them in the new contracts assigned to the Indian players.

Sehwag, it seems, has gone back to his roots and has started to correct his flaws. There was plenty of evidence that things have started to change in the recently concluded DDCA Hot Weather tournament. Sehwag led the ONGC team to an emphatic title victory over Indian Airlines(IA). He blasted 168 from only 117 balls, including 19 boundaries and 4 sixes, in the quarter finals. He then went on to smash 59 from 57 balls in the semi-final. It seems that he has been recalled to play county cricket as well.
