Ash and Paul advance to the Semi-finals of the tournament. When Chimchar does not perform to Paul’s standards, he releases the pokémon! Ash, feeling sorry for the pokémon, takes it as his own pokémon.

Ash and Paul have made it to the next round of the Tag Battle Tournament. Paul decides to train Chimchar for the next round. When Ash sees how cruel Paul is, he confronts him about it.

When Ash heads to the Hearthome Gym, he finds out that the Gym Leader is gone. To pass the time. Ash, Dawn, and Brock decide to compete in a local Tag Battle Tournament. However, Ash ends up being teamed up with his rival Paul.
